School House Workshops
The School House workshop event is where members of the guild demonstrate how to make something. These workshops are free and normally held on Saturdays for about 6 hours. Usually there are three or four members who demonstrate making a little project, demonstrating a special technique (e.g, paper piecing), experimenting with an unusual block, making a holiday themed item, or making a little quilt.
Among the projects offered this past year, we had “Paper Piecing Halloween Squares,” using the AccuQuilt fabric cutter, Folded Star Hoops, and using neckties to make a small pieced block, using Yukata fabric for a small Asian themed quilt, using Boro sewing techniques to make a pincushion, and considerations on how to quilt your quilt.
Members volunteer to do the demonstrations and new ideas are always welcome. Contact the Contracts/Program/ Workshops Board member. This is an opportunity to share your enthusiasm for a small project and practice your teaching skills. Often, there are four projects—two in the morning and two in the afternoon.
If you do not wish to make one of the items offered, you can also just bring your machine and sew with other members of the guild.
Bring your machine and lunch. Supply lists are distributed ahead of time, in the newsletter, and on the website. Registration is required so that each “teacher” knows how many kits to make.
