Welcome to Illinois Quilters, Inc. (IQI)!

Illinois Quilters, Inc. was founded in 1980 for people interested in quilts and quiltmaking. Our guild promotes an appreciation of the fine design and workmanship of quilting through fun, educational events. We honor and preserve our quilting heritage and encourage quilt-based community service. Quilters of all ages and experience levels are welcomed!

Our quilt guild meets in the evening on the first Thursday of the month, September through June in person, at Lutheran Church of the Ascension in Northfield (Map).  Some meetings are also available via Zoom. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the program begins at 7:00 p.m.

Our programs feature speakers who demonstrate either a technique, explain a history, present a trunk show of their work, or address a particular theme or type of quilt. Program lectures last about an hour with time for questions. After the program there are announcements, show and tell, and other activities.

Non-members are welcome to attend our meeting, the Zoom-only and Hybrid meetings for a fee of $10. If you are joining us in-person when we are hosting a Hybrid meeting, you are welcome to pay at the door.  If you'd like to join via Zoom, please register and pay online as a Guest.

We have a wide variety of activities beyond the monthly program.

Our programs and workshops are held at the Lutheran Church of the Ascension at 460 Sunset Ridge Road, Northfield, IL.  For a map, click here

April's Lecture Program

April 9--door open at 6:30

and IQI Schoolhouse (Please Register!)

Lecture: African American Quilts Today with Dorothy Burge

Bold, bright African fabrics inspire quilt designs and can be used in quilts to make a social statement.  We’ll look at African prints used in patchwork piecing and in pictorial applique.  Quilts with African Adinkra appliques will be shared and the history and meaning of those symbols will be explained.  Dorothy will share wall hangings which express outrage to recent events.

Dorothy Burge is a multimedia artist and community activist inspired by history and current issues of social justice. Dorothy is a native of Chicago, and a descendent from a long line of quilters from Mississippi who created beautiful quilts from recycled clothing.

Be sure to check out an interesting interview and more pictures of Dorothy and her work. https://www.tempestthazel.com/on-the-many-lives-of-dorothy-burge

A virtual exhibit at the Textile Center in Minneapolis showcases many quilts by Dorothy.
